Class of 1954
Congratulations to Issela Pulido!
It is a pleasure to announce that Issela Pulido is the recipient of the 2017 Marshall Egan Scholarship. She will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this fall to study nursing.
Issela, a first generation college student, says her parents “have shown me that education comes first and hard work is the key, and although there will be many obstacles in life, you can’t forget about your goals”.
She writes that she has loved school since the very first day and the more she learns the more intrigued she becomes with her studies.
Her high school counselor describes Issela as “dynamic, intelligent, kind, determined with a colorful personality”. She earned a high grade point average in her college preparatory classes while also being involved in numerous school activities, community volunteerism and employment.
Issela engaged her creative abilities to work on the Park Yearbook all four years of high school and was the Editor her senior year. She participated in sports all four years … varsity soccer, volleyball and swimming. She is a member of the Park Link Crew, Restorative Justice and HOSA.
This summer will be the third year that Issela has served as an intern in the office of the academic advisor at UW-Whitewater. She is also enthused about and active in the youth group at her church where she has done cleaning, cooking, decorating, serving mass, Altar Girl and helping with the kids’ camp. She is committed to her church choir. In the community she volunteered for soup kitchens, helped to clean up the city on Martin Luther King Clean-Up Day, helped with day care and at nursing homes and she has collected and organized canned food drives.
Issela is employed at Georgie Porgies where she is a shift manager. She is also capable as a cashier and one of the main cooks and is dependable anytime they need her.
“The activities that I have participated in have made me a person who commits to things and refuses to give up. I am a person who cares about her community and the well-being of others”, Issela writes.
We are very proud of our fifth recipient of the Marshall Egan Scholarship. We wish her the very best as she begins the quest toward her life dreams and goals.
Thank you to all who have contributed to the Scholarship and helped to bring students’ dreams to realization.
